:?: My wife and I planted a Shantung Maple last fall and have seen it grow tremendously, this year. The calipar is twice what it was when we planted it. The growth in height is about 4 feet. We are worried that it will be a weak tree because we have heard that the faster growing trees have weak wood and won't last as long as the slower growing trees.
We are in Plano, have black clay soil, and are totally organic. We planted it as directed in Howard's new book, the ugly hole and the flair exposed.
What can you tell us to ease our concerns? |

That rule of fast = weaker is true for most trees, but not all.
White and TX Ash, Shantung Maple, and a few others grow quickly yet are very strong trees. Nothing to worry about here at all. |
