I am trying to eliminate mesquite stumps and have heard that using
molasses and diesel fuel will work. I have heard about the use on several talk shows but never got the details. Has anyone heard about this method of stump control. We have grubbed out the mesquite on several occasions but they keep coming back. Thanks |

Dirt Doc says to chop up the top of the stump, pour molasses or some other sugar on it, cover with mulch to keep out light and with time that should get rid of the stump.
It worked for me on a hackberry stump.

| I'll have to listen closer. I thought I remembered the diesel and molasses was for killing plants under fencelines. The diesel kills it off and the molasses helps restore the microbes killed by the diesel. |

| What I've heard about molasses under the fencelines was to attract cattle to the sweetened forage under the fencelines to keep it grazed low. |
