I have a potted Frost Eureka lemon tree which was a Mother's Day gift. It is about 5 feet tall and is in a nursery pot. It has 5 huge green lemons and one small one. It is in a southwest room of windows and gets plenty of sun. I have no idea how to care for it, and have just tried to keep it moist and feed it Boiform about every two weeks. It needs repotting and appears to be too deep, but until the lemons ripen, I don't want to be moving it around. Now it has some spider mites on new foliage. Can someone tell me how to care for it and how to treat the spider mites indoors without a lot of mess? The new foliage is very pale green. Thank you for any help you can offer.

There must not be many of us with lemon trees. You asked about care--I let the soil around my trees (they are in containers) get fairly dry and then soak them fairly heavily. I fertilize them with citrus fertilizer about every other month. My trees are outside from March to November and then are moved inside a covered pool building. They get almost the same sun inside as they do outside.
One tree has lost all of its leaves since being moved inside, but the lemons continued to ripen and the tree is very alive. The other trees have not lost leaves and some are blooming. We have been picking lemons for the last two months and picked the last of them today--about a peck. If you have any ideas about the leaf loss, please let me know. |
