I'm getting ready to plant 4 new one over the New Years weekend, 2 Redbuds, a Shumard Oak & a Ginko. All are in 5 gallon containers. I now know to plant shallow rather than deep. Any ideas on how far above ground level should I plant with the upper most roots exposed. Would it be possible to plant one of the Red Buds between the street & the sidewalk and how close to the driveway and sidewalks should I refrain from planting them

I'd say 10-20% of the root ball above ground would be safe. Allows for plenty of settling over time.

I've got a birch between my street and walk but I'm not sure how much the Redbud's roots will disturb things. Someone with a mature one feel free t chime in here.
