I have what's labeled as a variagated Meyer lemon in a container that I've had for about 3 years. It produces fruit fairly well, getting 5 or so lemons a season. I've recently repotted it and added compost to the mix. My question is: How much of the trunk should be covered? I've gone a little higher than it was which is over what it think is a graft union. I'm not sure if it was planted right to begin with as I got it from a McNursery at a big home center.

| From your description, the tree is planted far too deep! There should be nothing on the trunk or the graft. The soil should be at or below the root flare. There are pictures on the HOME PAGE as to what a flare looks like. |

| Thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure if the root flare idea applies to citrus as well as landscape trees. |
