I had heard Howard mention some type of a homebrew air spade. Does anyone have more information on this or know where I can rent one?

I've never seen an air spade but I would think that anything which removes soil without impacting the tree trunk would work. If so, any air nozzle should work as would a water hose with a jet nozzle on it. Am I missing something?
