| I've always done the 'pointy bit' upward and that's worked fine for me. |

I have always had good luck soaking a paper towel or two with water just to point of not dripping, rolling the avocado seed in the towel and then putting that into a ziploc bag. After a few weeks, it has a good root and you can put it into a pot or the ground if you wish.
If you do want to put it into the ground, the earlier the better as avocadoes do have quite a transplant shock, even with the greatest care. The best thing is to just plant them directly into the ground and keep the soil wet for a few weeks to a month and they will grow surprisingly well. |
