During research for applying various soil amendments in liquid form I have been advised not to use roller pumps or spray booms on my tractor mounted spray rig. Is this valid information? I was instructed that only a diaphgram pump and a broadcast type nozzle can be used because otherwise I would be harming/killing the beneficial microbes that I was trying to apply. Not being able to use a boom sprayer limits the application process because of our wind conditions in western areas of North Texas.

I can't help you much on this post but if you move it to the area listed below, you should get help. I can't imagine how a sprayer could hurt microbes ???

This should actually be posted in another section besides "How to Use This Discussion Board".

Who advised you? I do not know how thi application method would be harmful. Only if you use it to spray pesticides or herbicides, and surely you would not do that, right?

I am doing some experiments to find the best pump for spraying microbes. Hopefully know more by this summer. My opinion right now is the piston pump is the worst, followed by the roller pump. Diaphragm pump is best, followed by the rotary vane pump. The boom sprayer will not harm the microbes. But you can cover alot more ground with the broadcast sprayer. Use what works for you.
