Red bud with no red buds

I planted a red bud, one with curled leaves, in the spring of last year. It was leafing out heavy with no red buds, I thought it was past the flowering. This year it is leafing out again with no red buds. It is a small tree, 3 feet high with small multi trunks. Is there a flowerless red bud? Thanks

Not that I'm aware of... if it's only 3 ft high, it MIGHT be too young to bloom yet. I cannot recall seeing one that small that bloomed.

Maybe some other redbud owners here might have had one that young and can opine?

We have 2 tiny redbuds, one we transplanted that had popped up on it's own & one was given to us (arbor society), just a bare root small 'stick' when we planted it. Neither has bloomed but does have leaves each year-well, the 2 yrs we've had them. I thought both Springs that they were dead but maybe that is right-they need to be older to bloom.

I've been looking carefully at the variation in bloom around the neighborhood this year because I have two mature transplanted redbuds that have been blooming poorly since planted 3 years ago. Finally this year, they got it together to put on a respectable show. Meanwhile, I have concluded that there must be some hybridization going on because some of the very small redbuds planted in new construction areas have ridiculously intense and prolific blooms - or were force fed in the nursery maybe.
