Has anyone experienced trouble with Cleyera Japonica? Have planted quite a few in our landscape, and for the most part they've been stellar. Occasionally, however, one will just 'up and die' on me, leaving a rather ugly sight.

Some just seem to suddenly quit... water doesn't seem to be the problem; (they're planted in groupings or rows, and the rest are just fine,) but one day an entire branch will be wilted, and a week or two later the entire plant is dead.

Wouldn't be so bad if I could find replacements as large as the shrubs I'm taking out... 3 in the past two years or so.

Any advice?

Cleyera is prone to cotton root rot. Use lots of horticultural cornmeal in the bed prep or work in around the existing plants. Dry garlic in the soil will also help. Excellent drainage is a must.
