| I am putting in a borderless raised bed, no - till, garden. Late last fall I planted annual rye on three locations on different beds. I guess I did this as an expermint. However, this was before I understood that annual rye is hard to kill. I have cut it back to the ground twice now. On one bed, the first time I cut it, I covere it up with a layer of compost approx. 3 inches thick. About 50% of it cam back through the compost. I wanttoknow, if I don't let it go to seed and keep cutting it, will it go away? Ot do I need to do something else with it. Thanks for any input from any one. |

Using rye cover crops is great, if you like to till your soil ! In a no-till sustainable gardening system, rye is harder to control and kill for green manuring.
After several low cuttings and mowing, and maybe lots of mulching to smother the rye cover crop, it will eventually die and decompose completely.

| Usually in most of TX, rye dies when the heat hits. |
