another new guy

Hey it's me.

I just joined and have built a huge hot compost heep in my backyard that's only a few weeks old. I want to go organic so that my little girl can make mudpies and maye even eat dirt or grass without harm like I remember doing as a kid. I'm tired of trying to tightly control the forces of nature and instead be zen and work with them. All I want is green grass and pecan trees that are healthy. And, oh yeah, no weeds or at least only pretty ones.

Welcome! And let me be the first to say congratulations on your decision NOT to poison your daughter and everything else! You can easily obtain your goals of healthy pecans and grass, and a good deal more with the processes you will learn here.

You won't have a completely pest and disease free experience, but you'll work less hard and have better results. Glad you decided to join us!

Thanks and as my second official act as an organic gardener i would like to find someone with a reasonable price for core aeration. Do you know of anyone in the White Rock/Lakewood area of dallas?

I'm bias, but Soils Alive is the best for all lawn improvement projects.

They seemed a little high in price to me. I've gotten two bids one $15 lower and I can rent an aerator for about a third of what either are asking. I was guessing $50 but it's double that. It doesn't seem that difficult a task. Thanks for the tip though.

Some people are afraid of heavy equipment, don't want to deal with broken sprinkler heads, don't have a trailer or pickup to haul the rental home, are tight on time, would rather be doing something else, etc.
It's always less money to do it yourself if you have the time and inclination but if a strained back keeps you out of work for a day or so, then you have to wonder.
I used to work with Soils Alive and the owner is a good friend and fishing buddy of mine.
