I found some bugs on my grapes today.
They are the same size as aphids only they are black. Also, they like to stay on the stems instead of the undersides of the leaves.
I sprayed them with some homemade garlic/pepper tea. We will see how that works but I would still like to know what those critters are. |

| The g/p seemed to work on the exact spot they were at but the next day they had just moved to another stem. |

| I have had a problem with the same pest. My guess is that they are a form of aphid, since mine are being "tended" by ants - lots of ants. Did you ever find an effective way to fight them? So far I've tries spraying them off with the water hose, ladybugs, and insecticidal soap. Nothing is working for me. Any help would be appreciated! |

I just stayed on them with g/p tea, Lady Bugs, Trichogramma Wasps and when they got too bad, Neem. My aphids are gone now, but, now I am off to cure other woes such as black spot and grasshoppers.
I think that I read that if ants are being attracted to the area of concern then it is most likely aphids secreting a sugarlike substance that the ants feed on. Therefore, the ants are telling you that there are aphids.......treat the aphids and the ants will go away on their own. |
