We have had purple martins occupy our 2 hours for several years. This year a few showed up in early May, stayed a few days and left. We occasionally see some flying around but no residents. A friend lives in Denison TX and they also had the same experience.
Anyone read anything about this. I thought it might be lack of food source since it is so dry and hot.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks. (I'm new to discussion).

I live just down the road from you on FM543 and have had just the opposite experience. Our house has been up for 4 years and we just got a colony this year. 4 pairs are nesting in a 14 room house.
Have you cleaned out your house? Have the trees grown too close? Any problem with snakes? What kind of sparrow pressure is there? Do you have the starling resistant entrance holes or the old style round holes? What kind of house do you have?
