I am growing pumpkins and am wondering if I need to cover them to protect them from sun and/or Place them on something as they grow so they will not rot on the ground? I would appreciate those with experience to share their knowledge.
Thanks!

I haven't grown pumpkins but I'll be the same thing applies. I put about a 2-3 inch layer of mulch after the vines are developing and that seems to do the trick with my watermelons, cantalope and squash.

There is a great article on growing pumpkins in this month's issue of The DIRT (June 2006). Click on "Little Sprouts" in the Table of Contents to read about it. Good luck!
