I want to plant, feed, and take care of my houseplants organically. How would I prepare soil to transplant them to my containers? What is the best thing to feed them with and how often? I have pothos ivy, peace lily, majestic palm, small english ivy.

DIRT DOCTOR’S POTTING SOIL
One part coconut fiber, one part expanded shale, one part quality compost or earthworm castings and one part wheat bran.

The best fertilizer for houseplants is probably earthworm castings. I do not think they will need fertilizing more than twice a year, using the above recipe to make the potting soil. If you are one to neglect watering your houseplants, (like I am) and you are tempted to use lava sand, use only a level teaspoon per two cups of mixture. More lava sand than that will retain too much water for a potted plant. If you are diligent about watering, nix the lava sand. Most houseplants are over watered.

This potting soil is rather rough in texture. Would it work for starting seeds indoors or would it be better to use a more traditional potting soil mix?
