I seem to remember that HG says Moore Tree Co--one of his sponsers--rents/sells them.

Is there any reason you can't wash the soil away with a hose?

I'm sure a high pressure jet of water would work perfectly well on root flares. I have another project that involves many hours of scraping, but I think the air spade will greatly reduce the labor.

I would start with my thumb over a regular hose, not a pressure washer, and see what you can do.

I investigated the cost of getting set up with an air spade. A compressor with enough capacity to run an air spade will cost 7 to 8 thousand dollars. The air spade will run you $1,100.00. The air spade is for businesses.
