Help! I came home to find the biggest spider on my coffee table I have ever seen! It looked like a brown recluse except that it was about 3 times larger, and there were tiny spiders all over its body just jumping around! I had noticed some very tiny spiders around the back door when I let my dog out, but thought nothing of them. Then I find this huge spider with all these baby spiders on its body and I knew immediately where they came from. How on earth did this thing get here, what is it, is it poisonous, help!!!!! I smashed it and stomped on as many babies as possible. I know some spiders are good for the earth, but this one scared me so much, and I'm not easily scared! Please help. I can't send a picture; I smashed it and threw it away. Makes me want to move!!! Please help me!
I already have DE out for the ants, I've plugged every pin hole I can find where the ants come from, but this - ouch! |

It sounds like the wolf spider or sometimes referred to as a garden spider.
Very beneficial. The only spiders that are poison are the black widow and brown recluse.

| Don't move. I agree with Richard. Wolf spiders are good guys. In fact, they eat or compete with brown recluses. |

Well, thank you both for your responses. Too bad about the spider, but my first inclination was to kill it - it was so huge & inside! I'll try to get it outside next time (hopefully next time I encounter one it will be outside!!!). Normally spiders don't upset me, but this one - yuck!
