We recently purchased a lot and it has several pecan trees on it. In some of them, there is poison ivy growing up the trunk into the tree. What is the best way to get rid of it? :?: :?: :?:

Well, pakin, good luck w/this one!

1st-are you allergic to p. ivy? We have it ALL over our woods, about 10 ac. At 1st we thought some trees had smaller trees entwined around them. NOOOOO, it was poison ivy vines! Bigger than my upper arm! We cut w/lopers, sawed w/hand saws & pulled it out of the trees. BUT-we're not allergic to it. Well, we weren't, now we get a little rash if we've scratched ourselves while working w/it. Caladryl takes care of it. I don't know what to tell you if you are highly allergic. Wear long sleeves, long gloves, masks.

Continue to cut the vine at the ground. It's impossible for us to rid our entire 10 ac but if yours is a managable area you can probably get it done. DH says shove a soup can over the cut off vine & leave that in place. We'd have thousands of cans if we tried that, tho. We did have a lot look really dead w/this drought. You can also try 10% vinegar after you cut the vines.

Good luck-

Patty

Goats love to eat poison ivy or oak. Can you rent some to clear it up for you?

We've checked around (not to good tho) & can't find any goat-herders to bring their flock to us. If we ever move to our land, I think I'll start a goat rental biz!
