I'm looking for a small tree (10-20 feet tall) that looks similar to a Japanese maple. They location in my backyard gets at least 6 hours full sun. I like the red fall color that Japanese maples have and their weeping affect along with the fragile small leaves.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I know that the red leaf variety of the Japanese Maples can take full sun. My next door neighbor has one in his backyard and it is stunning.

Go to Metro Maples in Mansfield. They have tons of JMs plus there patent version of Shantung Maple called Fire Dragon, Trident Maple, Big Tooth maple and... I forget what else.

www.metromaples.com and they are open to public on saturday only. Not sure what time though so check the website for more info. I got SM "Fire Dragon" there in the spring.

Impressive place!

I went to Lowes here in Waxahachie and got a Shantung maple today for only $20.00!!!!! I used a 10% off coupon. Its about 5 feet tall and I'm gonna let it sit in its pot until Saturday when I can plant it in the backyard. I love the leaves on it.

Funny, I got Shantung from that same place last week! I thought you were looking for JM? Anyway, Shantung maples at Lowe's in Wax are in great shape even for a place like Lowe's so that's why I got it. I guess with you buying it, there must be at least 2 shantung maples left there...

I bought Caddo Maple last week as well at Petal Pusher in Cedar Hill. I wanted a bigger maple in the corner back of the backyard facing street (corner lot) so that's 3 maples for me!
