Can someone tell by these pics if my shantung maple needs to be pruned to form one leader? It looks like it might have 2 leaders growing together but I'm no even sure I just bought the tree and its young. What does Howard say about pruning leaders?

Check that the tree isn't planted too low. I would do some cleaning up of the tree so that only one trunk will grow.
