No wrens in the wren house

Over a year ago I bought a wren house from Wild Birds Unlimited and attached it to my fence just above a wood pile. I have seen wrens around the wood pile but no takers on the new deluxe accomodations I have provided.

Any way to attract them or is it just too early to expect one to move in?

Could it be that the ones that are used to being around already have 'homes' & their offspring may come back to the same area & use your wren house?

I'll try to be patient and wait to see. I just wasn't sure how specific the placement of the house needed to be, some birds have to have things just so before they'll nest there. If you think the house is in a good place then I'll leave it.

The Carolina Wren is the most likely nesting wren species in North Texas. I am not aware of any preferences for direction of hole or height of nest box, altough they typically do not nest above 10 feet.

Carolina Wrens form life-long pair bonds. It may be that your box was in the range of a pair with a preferred nesting location, and they kept other wrens from moving in.

If you do get Carolina Wrens nesting, it takes about 12-16 days for the eggs to hatch and another 2 weeks or so for the young birds to fledge.
