Just joined - we live in Plano and are working on a xeroscape landscape plan. I have an herb garden and want to start composting. I'm here to learn! Cameo

There is plenty to learn here and what you can't find, you can ask for.
Let me correct or change your xeroscape to xeriscape. I'm not trying to be a stickler for spelling, but if you decide to search for information here or elsewhere that spelling will get you more information.

Xeriscape landscaping incorporates seven basic principles which lead to saving water:

Planning and design
Soil analysis
Practical turf areas
Appropriate plant selection
Efficient irrigation
Use of mulches
Appropriate maintenance

By incorporating these seven principles, you can help preserve our most precious natural resource-water.

The city of Austin has taken the lead in Texas by adopting "green" strategies, xeriscape is one of them. Visit their website and many of the local garden centers where you live for more information.

thanks Tony - yes, I see I misspelled xeriscape. We have the plan designed by a professional (should have looked at it before posting, oh well). My husband and I are doing the installation ourselves, so it's a lot of work, the digging especially - only have about 1/4 done so far. I'm looking forward to the day when we can do the maintenance of our yard instead of the hard labor. But what we've done so far, we're very happy with.
You seem very knowledgeable about xeriscaping, so it's nice to know you're out there in "dirt Dr space", in case I have any questions.

Hi Cameo,

I'm a newbie too, and I especially enjoy my herb garden because I love to cook. It's really more convenient than running to the store everytime a receipe calls for fresh herbs.

I'm interested in conservation as well as keeping the cost of energy down. When I move into my new home, installing a drip system to water my plants will be one of my important considerations.
If anyone has recommendations, I'm all ears!
