Eve's Necklace

I have several Eve's Necklace trees on my property. Today I collected about 400 seeds that I would like to grow. Does anyone know if they need cold stratifacation and/or how long? Do I need to remove the pulp from the seed? I'll also be trying hardwood cuttings. Does anyone have any information that would be helpful in reproducing this nice tree?

I have many Eve's necklace trees also. I'm thinking it's probably not too hard to propagate b/c I have new ones coming up every year- I guess from seed.

Sure would be nice to know how to plant & grow from seed-then they'd come up where I want them!

Here's what we have in the Tree Book and in the Library on the site:

PROPAGATION: Eve’s necklace can be grown from seed or cuttings. Seed are very hard. Germination can be helped by mechanically scarring or damaging the seed coat with a knife or file. Some people soak the seed in a mild solution of sulfuric acid for 30 to 90 minutes. A solution of acetic acid or vinegar would be safer and probably work as well. Seedlings don’t transplant well from flats and are fairly sensitive to overhead watering. Seedlings should be placed in full sun as early as possible to encourage upright growth. Stem cuttings should be taken in late winter before the new growth emerges. They should be kept under a mist system if at all possible

What about transplanting when they're bigger-2'-3'?

They are a little tricky to transplant from the wild. Like many of the native plants in a dry climate, the roots aren't very compact. They tend to be stretched out trying find water. Root pruning one season before digging increases the odds greatly. Transplanting Eve's necklace that has already been moved succesfully once, is much easier. Planting container grown trees is no problem but watch for and correct circling and girdling roots.

Thanks, DD. Tricky, huh?-I'm a little tricky. :) But usually just w/wasps. :)

We'll try to move the Eve's necklace when very small. Pretty easy to spot b/c the small 'trunk' is bright green.
