| I was wondering if ashes could be used for compost. Basically, ashes from burned trash )papers and such), fireplace ashes, etc. |

| yes, but keep it a small percentage of the compost pile - 10-15%. The ashes are a strong concentration of mineral salts and nutrients but when mixed with the dry brown stuff will work well for most anyone. Those with acid sandy soils can use it directly on the soil in fertilizer fashion. The key is - moderation. Be careful - most others will tell you to send it to the landfill along with greasy foods, bones, pet manure and other good compostable materials. |

Also look just a couple of questions down from your and you'll see another question about ashes in the compost. It also has a lot of good info in it. |
