We have two bare 14 foot flower beds and are looking for suggestions on what to plant in the Aurora area (NW of Fort Worth). We have clay and sandy loam and have added compost and lava sand. Both beds are on the east side of the house and get only morning sun and one is filtered by trees. We want drought tolerant, easy maintenance shrubs and flowers that will attract birds. We will need some shurbs under 3 feet tall because of windows.

Check out Texas Smartscape. http://www.txsmartscape.com/. Also, the book "Plants of the Metroplex" by J. Howard Garrett is a great resource. If it's not too far for you to drive, the Denton Organic Society is having a program on Texas Smartscape. http://www.dirtdoctor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7666
