A neighbor has a problem that I've never seen before. Underneath his live oak, he has 100s of tiny trees popping up where the grass used to be. He's moved over them, tried replanting grass, etc. -- its been a few years and the tiny trees keep popping up.
Any suggestions? |

The condition, as described, is often seen and frequently ignored under live oaks. I used to think that it was a genetic anomoly that had to be tolerated.
Now however, given the limited description, I would first check the root system near the trunk. These sprouts may be the result of some restriction[s] in the sap flow. The tree is fighting to stay alive!
If you have not already, check out the previous topics "Circling Roots", "Root Flare", "Trunk Flare", and such. There are also some good examples in the Video Library. There could also be other restrictions, such as string, wire, cloth, plastic, or construction debris.
Good luck.
Take care.
