I'm confused. Leeland Cypress is a tree and ajuga is a low-growing ground cover....How are they similar?

Sorry for the confusion. I am trying to find out about this for my son-in-law.
After talking to him, it is called Green Giant Ajuga.
He was told it will replace the Leeland Cyprus.

Ajuga, of any vaiety is a ground cover, like this:

Leeland Cypress is an evergreen tree, like this:

They are not interchangable. Are you or your son in law looking for a tree or for ground cover?
