What do you recommend for large magnolia trees that are shriveling from white fly and scale?

How strange. How old are they? Do you know how long they've had this problem? Is the drainage around the trees ok? Has the grade changed in the last year or so? Did you add a bed under the trees in the last year?

Before you start treating the symptoms you need to find out what ids causing it and correct it.

Best I know is they are the same age as the house some 30 years? Two years ago they blossomed like crazy now they don't. Nothing has changed with drainage or the grade. Nothing planted under them either. Only thing I've done so far is give them plant food and cut the roots that were circling the tree.
We've begun treating the leaves with Hi Yield Dormant Spray two days ago, as recommended by our local Nursery. Only problem with that is it can't be used in heat 90 degrees or above, which will be soon.

I don't think the spray reached the top of the tree, so I think it's not going to be all that effective.

So WHEN did you start seeing the trees decline and the pests appear? Was it before you started treating them and before you cut the roots?

The pests have been around about two years. I just cut the roots last month and the treatment with Dormant spray two days ago. So there was nothing done before to cause this.

I'm not sure what the dormant spray is supposed to do but the only thing I can recommend is Howard's Sick Tree treatment.

Can anyone else recommend a solution?

Dormant oil is for scale, etc. Horticultural oil is much better!
