Has anyone heard of this tree? The scientific name is Acer Freemanii. It is a cross between a Drummond red and a Silver maple. I saw it at a local nursery in Houston.

Yeah- Silver maples LOOK really pretty, they grow VERY fast and that's why so many get them.

Problem is, in this part of the country they get to maturity... then start falling apart. As in one day for no readily apparnet reason you come out to find a 300 lb branch has fallen off on your Honda.

I was told it has the root structure of a Silver Maple, but the branching structure of the Red Maple. Like The Ent said, they will grow ~4ft/yr due to large, fast-growing roots.

The problem with the Silver Maple is the way their branches grow...by having a Red Maple branching structure (and "strength"), the Autumn Blaze should be ok.

*DISCLAIMER* This is what I have been told/researched. Here's to hoping I'm right...I planted one in my backyard last fall that is leafing out rather nicely right now.

Regards,

Dom
