How does one get rid of these shrubs. When they die, how do you get rid of the stumps???

My own opinion: If they died, they are already in process of elimination/conversion. Wait. You need to remove the stump only if you want to plant something else in the same exact spot.

Left alone, they will become part of the total process/system that we call "Organic".

Take care.

You could go to Home Depot and rent a stump grinder. Or cut it as close to the ground as possible and drill holes into it, the more the better. Then fill the holes with jelly or preserves (my fav is strawberry). This will speed up the decomposing process.
