My Dad has asked me to get some help with controlling what he calls dollar grass. He has a St. Augustine lawn on lakefront property. Lots of shade. There are areas where the dollar grass has taken over. Is there any way to get rid of it? Or at least keep it from spreading.

First of all, check the drainage profile and irrigation history, even though this on a lakefront.

"Dollar Weed" thrives in areas where the surface remains generally moist. If you can reduce or interrupt the surface moisture, the weed should diminish. Meanwhile, the St. Augustinegrass can develop roots to find the deeper moisture.

Take care.
