As my wife and I were taking a short walk this afternoon, a mockingbird was singing up a storm and really declaring his territory. He would fly up from a tree top, then flutter down. He followed us from roof top to roof top for almost half a block, singing loudly all the way.

From my house in my old neighborhood, I could see across the street at a very large cedar tree. There was always a mockingbird at the very top singing loudly. He would do as you described and fly stright up fluttering his wings then come back down to the point on the tree. "look at me, look at me".

How interesting that he followed you down the street!

I love mockingbirds! That thing they do with their wings facinates me! We have one in our backyard that sings all the time. We buy our birdseed from Wild Bird Center and the owner said they didn't eat from feeders. Well, he was wrong! Ours does, and protects the feeder quite well!

right now we have several Mockingbird fledglings (sp?) in our backyard. They sure do fuss for food a lot and they are already full size. You can't tell them apart from Mom until they open their mouths.

At my Mom's house in Irving, as soon as she pulls up in her driveway a Mockingbird flies to the line over her and begins to sing. She assumes it's her welcome home greeting.

The mockingbird that was following me down the street has built a nest in my neighbor's front yard. He thinks he owns the neighborhood.
