I am finding tent caterpillars on the leaves of my needlepoint hollies, ornamental flowers, tomatoes and hydrangeas! I see them crawling on the fences etc...they seem to be everywhere. I am removing them by hand because I know the rain will just wash away whatever preventative measures I take.

Just keep an eye out for them!

 I found one inside my house the other day! A friend of mine found one on her cat. Just a piggy-back ride, no harm done). When I was finally able to mow the other day, I saw at least a dozen of them on the ground. I squished them with a stick. Webworms are small fuzzy almost white caterpillars. Take a look at the following link if you are unfamiliar with them.

Don't forget that in the spring, next year, you can release trich. wasps right as the trees start to leaf out. You can set up an RX so they are sent to your house in intervals of 3 or 4 weeks, and release based on your area's normal needs. Your nursery should be able to find out how often and when the best time to release them would be.

Once they are in their little nests, the trich wasps can't gain access unless you break open the bags/nests. and if you can reach that high, just cut them out and put the whole bag in the compost pile!

Now that it is pretty dry - for awhile - spray with Bt, but be careful not to get it on any of your butterfly larval plants!

I've already made a note on my calendar for next March to look for the wasp eggs at the nursery!
