Our crape myrtles here at work are turning black on the trunks and limbs.
I suspect the rain could be the cause.

The actual thing happening is a mold/mildew growing on them.

The application of some home made corn meal tea tends to keep this from happening when sprayed on the foliage, and can cure more minor already present problems with it. If it's bad, corn meal tea with some Baking Powder added will usually do the trick. You CAN use a small amount of baking soda instead, just don't make a habit of it.
