Hello, we have puchased a 5 year old house with a sick bermuda/weed lawn. I tried organic control last year with little help. The lawn has continued to deteriorate. I think we have had major grub damage this year, nutgrass gone crazy, poor overall turf quality. :x
I would very much like to find a consultant in the Dallas/Rowlett area that could come give some advice. I would like to DYI with the right advice. Key areas: grub destruction, turfa analysis and remedies (overseed, oversod).
Our lawn looks much worse than all the neighbors and they are all using chemical fertilizers and weed control companies so my wife wants to move that way and I don't! :x But results will be my only weapon!
I need to move asap so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks |

| Click on the Dirt Doctor name in the upper left corner to go to the main page. CLick on Organci Sources and scroll through the businesses list there. There are some lawn companies. |

It's pretty easy job to do.
Go to the animal feed store and get 50lbs bag of soybean meal. 50lbs would cover 2500 SQFT. It is real easy to spread with rotary spreader with the setting halfway through.
Get a bottle of unsulfured blackstrap molasses and apple cider vinegar ( I buy them at Wal Mart). I use ortho dial to spray them on the lawn. I use a mixture of 50/50 because molasses is pretty thick and vinegar will help thin it down. 2 oz of molasses per 1000sqft (plus 2 oz of vinegar).
Do this now and repeat on Oct 1 and Nov 1 to kick start the whole thing. This will help set up for spring green up.
Start doing it every 3 months starting March 1st.
It's really cheap if you do it yourself.
Just mowing regularly at 1 inch every week will yield a good looking lawn.
Please try and mow once a month during dormant months. It will keep winter weeds under control. Most people don't do that and it is very ugly looking during the winter. |
