I want to plant a tree on the West side of the house to shade my A/C unit. I am looking for recommendations for a tree that grows 10-15 ft tall. It will receive afternoon to late day sun. I do not have a preference to type of tree, just looking for ideas for the conditions.
Thanks

There are many to choose from, but most will be a bit taller than 15'. Try a Kidneywood, Eve's Necklace, Mexican Plum - so long as it isn't too close to the a/c or it may make a mess on it - or, for other great ideas check out either Howard's Tree Book or Sally Wasowski's Native Plant book which breaks down each region of Texas, including Houston - which gets more rain than many parts of Texas do.
Fall is a great time to plant a tree, too - so you're on the right track! |
