I had a great crop for the summer so planted some new tomato plants for the fall a month ago. The leaves began getting small holes in them so I turned them over and saw tiny brown bugs. I put them and the leaf into a baggie and went to several nurseries. One place said chinch bugs. What? Anyway I've sprayed them with correct stuff which kills them but a few days later they're back. I've chunked those plants and got others but same problem. It's as though they're sucking the moisture completely from the plant.
Today I went to Calloways and they said the bugs looked like a beetle - small as the tip of a pencil. I bought a bunch of Orange Oil at their suggestion and will drench the soil. He said they could be residing down in my cedar mulch so am clearing that away and re-mulch after drenching. Is the correct path am taking? They weren't on my previous good crop earlier in the summer. |
