Nice, huh? I don't know if it's growing directly into caliche or black topsoil on top of caliche base. It happens to be only a couple miles from where I live. i was driving around in this older subdivision to look what what is doing great in this awful type of soil and this tree caught my attention. Initially, I thought it was bald cypress that happens to be growing dark green leaves which NONE of bald cypress in my town have. Dr. Creech from SFA said it looks like montezuma cypress so i guess it is. |

I'm surprised that nobody has posted about this tree. Howard has never provided a clear picture of Montezuma cypress from North Texas. I can't tell where exactly MC is in the picture at Frito Lay that Howard posted. I talked to a lady and she has hard time finding it even though she works there.
Anyway, I thought it was a good picture to show everybody what MC would look like in a yard since I've never seen a mature MC by itself in a lawn. |

| It may be BALD cypress. The seeds are too large (but not as large as typical BC????) as I've received the MC seeds from the MC at Frito lay headquarter that are T-I-N-Y and talked with a professor about it. He thought it may be western bald cypress but who really knows? NONE of bald cypress in Midlothian, sitting on limestone bedrock, look anything like that. I've collected seeds and so far 3 have sprouted. The whole thing doesn't even make sense anyway. It got attacked by some kind of fungus blight (supposedly). Two different colleges in Texas reported the same thing on their montezuma cypress trees and BC aren't typically bothered by it??? The million dollar question is... what exactly is the tree? |
