I was in the area, so I decided to stop by the Plant Shed in Euless. I had never been and it looked like a decent nursery.
It turns out they're having a sale on all shade trees. On top of that, their order of 15G Shumards were delivered as 20G, so they are selling them at the 15G sale price. I couldn't believe the size tree I bought for $40.
The majority of the Red Oaks looked healthy -- some minor circling roots, but the root flares were visible.
I'm not sure how long the sale lasts, but its worth a look. |

| Well, as long as there is no major girdling root problem, that's a good deal. Pretty much all 15g or larger have terrible root system so i never buy them. I wish everybody would start using Whitcomb container to keep root girdling under control. It just will take a few years to establish root system before you see a lot of growth. I actually prefer 5g trees under 6 feet height. Very easy to maintain and they start growing fast rather quickly. |

Good points...
I've gone to good nurseries and have a terrible time finding non-circling roots.
I may go smaller next time... |
