I've noticed new trees that appear to have a knotted root flare. Otherwise, no circling roots, but the flare itself is knotted or slightly circular.
Thoughts? Is that the way some of them grow or is that a caution flag?

| your pictures won't show up but I think I know what you mean by knotted root. I had the same thing. Man, the base of trunk really SWELLED up the past year, I guess from the rain we've had all year long. You will notice it next year for sure. My other shantung maple's trunk really swelled up like 3 times the size as well. I was like wow... |
