I was driving around east of McKinney the other day and saw a large flock of American Robins. Large numbers of robins winter in North Texas.

There is a quick trick for identifying a flock of robins.

A flock of robins is very loose, with little organization and lots of space between the birds.

Red-winged Blackbirds sometime flock in a long, flowing band, with the birds close to each other.

Grackles tend to have a little more space between each bird than in a flock of Red-winged Blackbirds, but the flock is much more tightly spaced than a flock of robins will be.
