I'll try to make this as short as possible. My husband and I bought 120 acres just north of the Red River in July 07 with the intention of producing hay on about 80 acres of it. The property was pretty neglected, probably leased to someone who ran cattle on it (there is ALOT of bale string all over the pastures). The high price of fuel has sent the price of "fertilizer" sky high, if I can show my husband on paper that using organics isn't any more expensive than the traditional fertilizers he'll let me purchase equipment (I'm thinking a 3 point spray rig) and have a go at it.

I've been successful with organics in the yard around the house and in my vegetable garden (aerated compost tea in a 5-gal bucket, molasses, orange oil, corn gluten meal and the like) but the size of this project has me a little intimidated.

Any words of wisdom or assistance from the wonderful people on these forums will be greatly appreciated.

Check out the great folks at Sustainable Growth Texas. Their website is sustainablegrowthtexas.com. I believe Howard Garrett referred them to us. We have been on a program with them for a couple of years now on about 220 acres and Its working great. They will meet with you and customize a program for whatever goals you are striving for. They can apply the products for you, or you can get whatever you need from them to do it yourself. It's cheaper than the chemical alternative, and much better for the environment.
