I've been looking at the raised bed with a cold frame here:

http://www.gardeners.com/Cedar+Raised+Bed/Landscaping_RaisedBeds,37-448,default,cp.html & wondering if it'd be a good investment for my first veggie garden here in the south.

What do you all think?

(I know they could be made at home cheaper, but honestly, I'm a hazard to myself & others with tools in my hands :P)

It's a good investment if you have the money to spend on such things and you are really wanting a more continuous growing season for lettuce, etc.. It's really a matter of what's important to you and if you think it's worth your money.
