I personally don't mess around when it comes to heartworm prevention for my boxer. I use my vet's prescribed Heartgard.
I would be interested in hearing others if they are doing something else.
It would be great if it had some long term documented research. |

| I don't have a natural solution for this either, but I did learn at my local feed store that you can buy bovine ivemectrin and feed or inject it at a rate of .1 cc per pound for a much more cost effective way to control heartworms. |

I follow a basic plan that is supported by naturalrearing.com, a raw and natural diet to boost the animal's body to protect itself, supplements of garlic, raw apple cider vinegar, citrus/herbal sprays to keep mosquitos and other insects from biting in the first place, and will also be trying an herbal deworming during the mosquito seasons and when I visit my parents. A healthy dog with a healthy immune system can take care of himself.
I posted in a previous topic that concerned heartworm and I will paste it here as it has links for info:
There is a protocol using Paratox to get rid of heartworms. It was used successfully in a [all breed] rescue in Florida though I've lost that article. [It was actually an email written by Marina from Natural Rearing and she has written an article explaining it in more depth on her website]

I need to set up a webpage with all of this info on it, but for now here are some links to check out:

I would talk to a holistic vet in your area about this information and see what they say.
Hope this helps!
