Just moved to the Denton area. Building and would like to add Oleanders to the new landscape. Are there any varieties that are suitable for this area? Lot is sandy soil.

I think I remember Howard saying that the Red ones are the best. I tried to propagate some from cuttings from mine on Galveston Island. They did not take, just died. If anyone knows how to successfully do it, please let me know.

Thanks. We had good luck with reds and pinks in lake livingston area. Did get some started from cuttings. Put in water for 7-10 days until small roots started to grow, then planted- keep moist after planting. did OK
Like the color and evergreen so will try them here too.
Thanks again |

Try "Hardy Pink" Oleander - very frost hardy here in the Hill Country and I'm sure you see a few cold days in the Denton area.

I was wondering if an oleander could be planted by a chainlink fence to help create a "screen" between my backyard and the neighbors... How tall to they grow? do they also growth in width as in height? pruning? are they invasive?
Thanks for your help. If there are other plant ideas...I am open to suggestions.

Just do an internet search on them to get all the info you're looking for. They can be just as wide as they are tall so plan accordingly.
