| Am I wrong in saying that Indian Hawthorns, if pruned at all, should be pruned after they flower? |

That's the rule for most flowering plants.

RE: Indian Hawthorn
Are there any "real" benefits to pruning? This is the 1st year that mine that bloomed. So I would like to know how to care for them now.
Thanks |

| You should only prune to maintain a particular shape. If the shape looks good, then there's no need to prune. |

| I have one and I did not prune it for about 4 years. It became real leggy and there were no blooms this year. This could also be a result of a nearby tree that keeps providing more and more shade... Maybe a little bit of both? :?: |

We decided we needed shade on the west side of the house but neglected to note that Indian Hawthornes were there b/c of the sun. We get very few blooms now. I regularly trim 'em back after they bloom-just to keep them below the window ledge. I'd say the blooms are reduced b/c of shade.
