Mushrooms in lawn

We had a tree cut down about 5 years ago and ever since I have had problems with mushrooms growing in that area of the lawn. It seems like they are multiplying rapidly. How can I get rid of this nusiance?

It sounds like they are the results of the tree trunk remains "composting" They are doing no harm. Just kick them over, or mow them. They will eventually go away on their own.

Ditto what Mr. Clean said. That's the evidence that you have good biological activity in your lawn and that the remains of the tree's root system is decomposing and becoming food for the soil and hence your lawn. The mushrooms you see are of course the fruiting bodies of the fungi that are working on that old dead wood in the ground.

As indicated, they will disappear once the old root wood is fully composted. Mowing will eliminate the 'shrooms anytime you want to get rid of them for a few days. But they are nothing other than a sign of something going right in your soil.

I have the same situation, dead tree and mushrooms. They are rather smelly but the good news is they keep the flies away from my deck area.
Is there any way they I could use them in a compost pile?

Would this also be true in the flower beds. We recently had some landscapping down on our new home and i have notice mushrooms in the bedding areas.

If you want to make the effort to move them to the compost pile, that should not present a problem. I have never had any of my mushrooms have a noticeable smell???

That is right. Just kick them over, or if they detract too much from the appearance of the bed, pick them out. You can throw them into the lawn to be mowed over or toss them in your compost pile.
