Growing Bare Spots

I needs some help please.
We have beautiful Zoysia grass except for one spot. When we got the home this time last year there was a 8 x 18" bare spot in the middle ofthe yard. No discoloration of grass around it - noththing except a bare spot. Well over this past year it is slowly growing/expanding. The grass at the edge looks perfectly normal.

Suggestions??

Zoysia, while pretty enough, is a very slow grower and will fill in very very slowly there. Also Zoysia doesn't do well in any amount of regular foot traffic. It's more of a show grass that you shouldn't do much with.

I'd say get you a couple of Zoysia solid sod squares and fit them in there.

I agree this would be the quickest remedy. Be sure to add a few ammendments (compost, lava sand, zeolite, organic fertilizer, etc,) before and after laying the sod. Make sure the sod comes in good contact with the soil below.

It seems to be a problem with the soil more than the grass...?? Is that crazy??

I just applies some soil drench and put down some Greensense fert.


Any other suggestions??

What do you think is wrong with the soil? A contamination? A fungus?

What kind of soil drench did you use?

If the soil is contaminated, then compost, corn meal, molasses, and time are my suggestions for remediation.

For soil contamination, HG has recommended the use of Norit (an activated charcoal product) or zeolite. Follow that up with the products suggested by Dchall_San_Antonio or an organic fertilizer like the GreenSense you have already used.

I used Greensense soil drench.

I have also applied the corn meal.
I am making some compost and compost tea.

My neighbor said that the previous owner had a bird feeder staked in the yard there. (gone for over a year now)

If the previous owner was a bird lover, you could probably rule out soil contamination from poisons. Though I am a bit surprised that you don't have various growths from the seeds "kicked out" by they birds as they fed. I would bet with the steps you have already taken, you could proceed with some sod and watch it grow.

I wonder if they might have gotten tired of the weeds under the feeder and poisoned them after taking away the feeder :?: :?: :?:
