| I have had a problem with carpenter ants in my forsythia bushes. I was cleaning out dead branches last year and this year the ants have found a spot in my house. How can I treat the house and what should I do about the bushes? I did already take care of a leak in the house and boric acid did some goiod where I could treat the walls of the house. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |

Has the place where the leak was dried out completely? Boric acid is a great way to take care of them inside your home. Could you try another application? If they are in an inaccessible place you may wish to contact Rid-All.

As for the bushes, they are there to clean up the dead wood. Insect infestations are a secondary problem in plants. They only occur when a plant is in stress. |

| Carpenter ants are beneficial in your landscaping. Their main food source is honeydew which is the excretion from aphids while they are feeding. Carpenter ants basically act like aphid ranchers they will keep aphids in confined locations so as to have a food source. They do not feed on wood but they do tunnel through wood to create a home for the colony. You have to be some what carefull how you treat them because it is easy to force them further up into the house where they can do more damage. The best product to treat them with is Timbor or Nibor-D which you can find at Rhode's or most locations that sale organic products. |
